Title: Taking the Queen
Support: Stretched Canvas
Size: 24×18 inches
As with many of my masterpieces, this painting has a story within a story. The first story you see, is that of two queens playing chess on a chessboard-like landscape. This chessboard is fraught with an uneven landscape. This was intentional. If you look closely at the real chessboard, it is in perfect perspective.
The white queen has made a move to take the black queen. This is illustrated both on the real chessboard, as well as on the landscape, depicted with the white knight in position.
The second story behind this, is a bit personal, as it depicts the conflict of the left and write brain in trying to make a decision. The subconscious mind is represented by the sun, which is illuminating the queen who holds the correct solution.
